Carlo Donati Studio is mostly focused on luxury houses, shops and resorts throughout Italy and abroad.

After working as architect consultant of Gianni Versace, Aldo Coppola and Liberty of London fashion brands, the firm is currently responsible of the artistic direction of the Slowear fashion brand, developing the new retail concept and the design of several stores and showrooms in Italy and all over the world.

Carlo Donati Studio is also the project team in charge for the new image of Colefax and Fowler and Linea più, a well-known company in the sustainable power industry, working at the project of several customer service offices.

Most of the projects have been object of interest by international press and have been published in the most renowned and influent interior design magazines and several books of architecture both in Italy and all over the world.

Carlo Donati was born in Zibello (Parma) in 1965 but he was raised, he trained and worked in Milan. In 1978 he was given the album Some Girls by the Rolling Stones: meeting Mick Jagger would change his worldview forever.

He studied architecture at the Politecnico of Milan where he graduated in 1992. He worked at the renovation of Sant’Eustorgio Cloister and of Palazzo Reale, both in Milan. From 1993 to 1995 he worked at the Gregotti Associati International firm for the implementation of the masterplan of Turin and Livorno.

In 1995 he lives in New York where, as a consultant architect of Versace Group, he renovates Gianni Versace’s townhouse and the historical Vanderbilt Mansion, the main flagship store on the Fifth Avenue. This prepared Carlo to start his own firm “Carlo Donati Studio” in 1996 when he also founded the “Farnese Contract” with Adriano Donati and Massimo Avanzini, that operates as a general contractor, working with the most successful design studios.

In 1999 he married Silvia in Las Vegas. Alessandro was born in 2005.

The aim of the project was to create a dialogue between the minimalist approach of the design, pure spaces and lines with the typically warm atmosphere of Engadine-style houses in Pontresina. We wanted to combine sophisticated design with ironic, decorative motifs such as wallpaper with tree patterns or a custom-made elk antler chandelier. The colours and materials used are meant to closely reflect those of the natural environment visible through the big windows: dark ebony wood for the kitchen furniture, doors and bath area, rough oak wood for the table, warm white Corian for the countertop and white wool for the sofa. Most importantly, local green-coloured rough Serpentine stone was used for the floors and fireplace. The fireplace area in rough burnished brass is probably the most interesting part of the house, the focus of a strong perspectival axis.
