Sometimes, even the most sterile of places can be re-imagined into a spectacular living space. This former parking garage in Lisbon is instantly transformed with just a few subtle touches thanks to Porto architecture studio Fala Atelier.

With 200 square metres to work from, this garage space offered plenty of possibilities. However, the designers opted to keep things simple. The walls and ceilings have been painted white to keep thing airy and open, while the floors have been resurfaced with a quality concrete finish. Individual living areas are effortlessly identified with simple furnishings or, in the case of the kitchen, an eye-catching marble island to extend work space. This spacious arrangement is incredibly liveable, with larger spaces partitioned off with extending curtains. Not only do these curtains help segment up the larger space, the sheer colours used help inject even more personality into this distinctly modern location. Finally, the generous dimensions ensure this space can be used as initially intended. With less interior walls and no obstructions, the resident can drive their own vehicle directly into their living space for total peace of mind.
