Haute cuisine as religion

Written by Stella Peeters in

Built within the chapel walls of a former military hospital, The Jane Antwerp is a restaurant with a difference. Here, it’s not just Sergio Hermans’ food that’ll impress – Studio Piet Boon and Studio Job have come together to create a one-of-a-kind temple that celebrates the pinnacle in interior design, unique lighting and haute cuisine.

Restaurant The Jane in Antwerp manages to retain all the authenticity and original charm of the chapel space it’s built within, including character features like the stunning chapel ceiling. Piet Boon is responsible for the redesign once again rely on their signature use of reclaimed materials, allowing for natural wear and character to shine through. Their penchant for raw materials and an attractive, unfinished aesthetic shine through, with heavy use of rough stone, leather and solid oak.

It’s the 800-kilogram chandelier from Beirut-based design studio, PSLAB, that really steals the show however. At an impressive 12 x 9 metres in diameter, this stunning lighting centrepiece boasts 150 individual LED bulbs, illuminating the chapel restaurant beautifully. Another eye-catching feature is the unique stained-glass windows from Studio Job, made from 500 individual panels and featuring an eclectic assortment of images including penguins, gas masks and birthday cakes.
