Andaz Amsterdam by Marcel Wanders

Written by Olivia Janssen in

The designs of Dutch interior designer Marcel Wanders are immense popular. One of his creations is the Andaz Amsterdam, a luxury hotel located on the canals of Amsterdam.

Andaz Amsterdam elegantly reflects the creative and laid back feel of the capital as well as the history of the city’s ‘Golden Age’ with elements of Delft blue and references to navigation and adventure. Wanders has tied the history of the building, which was formerly the Central Library, to its new role and old books are featured in wallpapers and in the interior.

The hotel makes great use of video art and huge photos, while eye-catching furniture and accessories add a recognisable yet quirky Dutch touch. Upon arrival, guests immediately find themselves underneath a modern starry sky made from different types of spherical lamps; a reference to the navigation methods of earlier times. Wanders loves to reference well-known historical styles and archetypes so that users can easily feel connected with his designs.
